Excellent December 24, 2008 Pro. The metal impeller is a must have, I use mine to clean up construction and insullation debris, as well as leaves. Easy to set up as blower or vacuum. Con. The bag is too small to use effectivly with a lot of leaves. The cord cover limits the size of the extension cord female end making it impossible to use with some of my cords.
Tried the rest - this is the best. December 24, 2008 Having tried Poulon (gas) lasted 3 weeks, Craftsman (gas) 13 weeks, Troy bilt (gas) - 2 weeks and Ryobi (gas) 7 weeks, I decided to try the Toro Ultra - ok, it's not so wieldy ( the cable is annoying ), but boy does this machine work. Rake up my leaves with a lawn sweeper and tractor - then set about them with the Toro mulcher. It devours dry leaves in a flash and is just a bit slower with damp ones. Doesn't like gum balls and will jam but only takes a few seconds to clear - mulched 10 lawn sweeper loads this morning in only about an hour. Buy this one and save money - the cheaper gas machines are a total waste of money - even the repair shops will tell you so - Chinese cr** according to my repair shop and even the dealer who replaced my Troy Bilt with my Toro ( and some cash ) hadn't a good word to say for them. Just got my Ryobi back ( crankcase broke in two ) parts for the repair under warrantry cost more than I paid for the machine !!!!!!!
Not So Good... December 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was looking forward to using this new equipment. I purchased the base unit with the leaf collector and leaf container. I blew the leaves in to pile and began vacuuming. The vacuuming process is slow and tiring. The leaf collector cover kept blowing off. I secured the cover with a bungee cord. The bungee cord just caused the cover to build-up pressure and blow off even higher. I drilled a bunch of 5/8' holes in an old plastic garbage can and put the leaf cover on that. The vacuuming process worked much better than the standard issue Toro leaf bag. You then have to dump the leaves in to a leaf bag. The blower/vacuum does generate enough suction to progress very quickly. I had the most success with getting on my hands and knees and hand feeding the leaves in the hose. Hand feeding the leaves is quicker but does cause jams if the leaves are slightly damp. It is verily easy to clear out the jams. The blower vac does a nice job of chopping the leaves to reduce mass. However, as the daylight was running out, I reverted to the tried and true rake and leaf bag to finish the job in a timely manner. If your yard is bigger than 10'x 10' I would suggest blowing the leaves in a pile and hand stuffing in a bag supported within a garbage can. Toro should consider designing a leaf container and leaf bags with holes in them to allow higher vacuum pressure. A stronger vacuum motor and wider throat would also be helpful. The product under performs for the average yard. for the average yard.I found this Toro leaf collector to be "not so good".
Great blower December 23, 2008 Great power to this blower, easy to handle. You can adjust the power level easily with the turn of a dial. Only two downsides. First, the vaccum is powerful enough it will suck up bark chips as well as leaves, which then requires cleaning out around the impeller. Second, the strap to the leaf bag broke within about 15 minutes of use. Otherwise I love it, and I would buy it again!
Love it! December 22, 2008 Perfect gadget for you if you live in a townhouse close to the woods. We rake more than we mow and this has been a huge time saver for us! Does the job quickly and efficiently. Now we send much less garden waste out to recycling. This reduces what was 3 - 4 bags down to 1.
